About us/Mō mātou
The University of Otago’s School of Pharmacy is the oldest in the country and prides itself on achieving excellence in pharmaceutical care. We aim for excellence in research and research informed teaching in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy.
The School of Pharmacy offers a four-year undergraduate Bachelor of Pharmacy degree as well as various postgraduate clinical and social pharmacy qualifications and research degrees such as PhDs. The undergraduate degree enrols students from all regions of New Zealand and also offers a number of international places.
Pharmacists play an important part in the health workforce by providing access to medicines, optimising their use and ensuring the quality is consistently high. It is a skilled and important profession and graduates from the Otago School of Pharmacy credit their degree with developing strong practical and analytical skills, which form the backbone of their professional lives.
The role/Te mahi
As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will work closely with Professor Sarah Hook on a Cancer Society of New Zealand research grant. You will provide research assistance to prepare and optimise cancer vaccine formulations.
- Preparing vaccine formulations.
- Full characterisation of formulations (stability, size, drug release).
- Carrying out analytical assays to a high standard.
- Writing clear and well-constructed reports based on experimental results.
Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
- Hold a degree in Pharmacy or a related qualification.
- Experience in a research laboratory (preferably in an academic or industrial setting).
- Well-developed computer skills with experience in word-processing, email and web-searching.
