Here at the Council, our work is our community. If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, then this part-time Pasifika Librarian position could be the role for you. This role is based on the Tuakiri/Identity Floor of our central library – Tūranga.
About Tuakiri:
Tuakiri| Identity tells the story of Identity in Christchurch and Canterbury. It is home to the Pasifika Collection, Aotearoa New Zealand Centre, Ngā Pounamu Māori, Archives and specialised resources supporting Family History and Local History research.
The Tuakiri team truly value, support and respect each other. We work closely together on a range of activities requiring the ability to move seamlessly from everyday technological and customer enquiries to in-depth research work alongside customers. This requires a high degree of cultural responsiveness as we work with diverse customers and collections.
About the role:
We are looking for a dynamic individual who is truly passionate about, and has previous experience with, making a difference in Pasifika communities. You will develop and care for Tuakiri’s Pasifika collection, ensuring this resource meets the needs of the community. You will work closely with other colleagues to develop programmes and activities which reflect and promote Pasifika values, culture and language.
About You:
As a confident communicator and relationship-builder, you will bring the following skills and experience with you:
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with Pasifika communities
- Ability to promote respect and awareness of Pasifika languages and cultures
- Understanding and application of knowledge of Pasifika material and resources
- Understanding of and ability to apply appropriate Pasifika protocols
- Development, implementation, promotion and evaluation of Pasifika services
We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, customer-focused and digitally literate people with the skills to provide a welcoming, professional and positive library service.

Hours are as follows:
Wednesday 1.00pm – 6.00pm (5 hours)
Thursday 1.30pm – 8.00pm (6 hours)
Friday 9.00am – 5.30pm (7.5 hours)
Saturday 10.00am – 5.00pm (6.5 hours)
