NIWA is a dynamic research organisation whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand’s aquatic resources and environments, to provide understanding of climate and the atmosphere and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.
We are seeking a capable technician experienced in the construction and deployment of oceanographic moorings (coastal and offshore) from a variety of platforms. They will be joining our Ocean Deployments team and will be actively involved in our coastal and offshore measurement programmes around New Zealand, Antarctica, and the Southern Ocean.
The successful applicant will have experience in deploying and recovering oceanographic instrumentation, will have a well-developed field skillset with the operation and maintenance of oceanographic equipment, as well as the experience and confidence to lead the deployment and recovery of these systems. They will need excellent communication and project management skills, be well-organised and responsive to project deadlines, be adept at problem solving and have the ability to effectively prioritise and work unsupervised.
