Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
Working closely with Data and Revenue, our team aren’t just accountants but also analysts, pulling big data apart and diving in to fully understand Retail P&L before delivering a reporting framework that includes both financial and non-financial measures of performance. Responsible for coordinating the planning process, monthly accounting process, and providing analytical financial support, this role will suit a skilled, flexible accountant who can balance strong processes and accuracy with effective analysis and insights.
Reporting to the Customer Accounting Manager, there’s all the usual stuff you would expect from a management accounting role: month-end accounts and reporting, reconciliations and asset settlement, preparation of budgets and forecasts, and providing day-to-day financial support for budget owners. There’s also a big ol’ analysis piece, keeping a constant eye on customers, revenue and expenditure, costs of sale, project costs and project activity. Through this ongoing monitoring you’ll be perfectly placed to spot opportunities for value creation, system improvement and process improvement; observations that will mean heaps to us as we travel from amazing to even more amazing.
Part of a tight knit, highly engaged and self-reliant team, you’ll also get to develop KPI dashboards, dabble with financial modelling, and soak up as much intel and learning as you have appetite for from your pals in Data, Revenue, and the wider Finance space. Growth opportunities abound for those with a learning mindset and an appetite to adapt and change.

A lifelong learner, you’re keen to figure things out for yourself, with strong initiative and a can-do attitude. You thrive in accountancy roles that go beyond the norm and have plenty of stories to share about times you’ve delivered exceptional service to stakeholders.
Solutions-driven, you love getting stuck into a good challenge and have a natural curiosity to understand the “why” in things. Your keen attention to detail means you can solve problems faster than the average bear, and you’ve been doing this long enough to be fully au fait with building budgets, understanding cost drivers, and using large data sets to build understandable, data-driven forecasting and cost allocation models. Likewise, you’re comfortable with accounting systems (bonus points for SAP) and are more than okay managing your own time to get the mahi done, reaching out if you need a hand.
Additional Information
This is a permanent part-time role, working 20-25 hours a week. We’re pretty flexible about when and where you work, but we do have another part-time Management Accountant who works Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if your availability includes Wednesdays and Fridays: awesome. (If not, don’t fret – it’s not a deal-breaker, just the ideal.)
Living in or near Wellington would also be ideal. This team loves to get together and collaborate in person, so while you’ll have a lot of flex to work from home, there will also be a bit of office time here and there.
