Senior Intellectual Property Advisor

Permanent

Full time (40 hours)

Based in Wellington

We are keen to hear from you if you are excited about working as a key part of our Creatives Services team to support and reinforce the vision, strategic priorities and values of Te Kura.

As New Zealand’s largest school Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) provides personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood level to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners. Our vision is to enable our students to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities.

As Senior Intellectual Property Advisor, you’ll will be an exceptional communicator, with proven experience and understanding of intellectual property law and practices. The ability to build and maintain effective relationship is a must, as you will be working closely with kaimahi across Te Kura and Intellectual Property (IP) professionals in the education sector. You will be responsible for maintaining Te Kura’s IP and external copyrights ensuring that implementation of materials, items and online platforms comply with New Zealand IP, Privacy Laws, Copyright Act as well as Te Kura policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will have:

  • In depth understanding and experience of intellectual property law and practice and related legislation including Copyright Act 1994 and its amendments, the Privacy Act 2020 and the Trade Marks Act 2002 and how these apply to the development of educational resources in a wide variety of media
  • Well-developed skills in problem-solving, considered decision-making, and identifying and mitigating risk
  • Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Well-developed legal writing skills, in particular, experience drafting intellectual property licence agreements
  • Excellent computer skills, including database management
