The Dunedin City Council, City Development team is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Urban Designer to fill a permanent part time position. The 0.7 FTE role (26 hours per week) provides a flexible schedule for the successful applicant. In this role you will develop designs for urban amenity upgrade and other DCC projects, as well as provide expert advice for resource consents and District Plan review projects.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a relevant urban design or landscape architecture degree and have at 3 years’ experience as an Urban Designer. You will have excellent design and visualisation skills. You must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and preferably experience presenting evidence at RMA hearings. You must also have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and other Council departments, in a local government context.
You will also possess:
- the ability to work within a complex organisation, such as a local authority.
- critical thinking skills, and an openness to learning, with motivation to find the best, collaborative design solutions for Dunedin’s public realm
- the ability to lead consultation on design projects as well as be part of a team that oversees implementation
- the ability to translate complex information into a clear direction or approach
- a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and initiative, drive, confidence and a willingness to make a difference.
- particular experience, or familiarity, with internationally applauded urban design approaches is desirable.

Salary Range: 78,043 to 91,815 (pro rata)
