About our group and team

Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce is a key part of the Ministry.

We develop the education workforce strategy, including a focus on specialist services, employment relations, pay equity, education payroll, supply and scholarship functions. Our group ensures the system has the right people in the right places at the right time for early learning, kōhanga reo, schools and kura. We have links to tertiary education organisations, in particular wānanga, iwi and Māori, peak bodies and others, in the co-design of solutions to workforce challenges, such as provision of teachers with te reo and mātauranga Māori knowledge and Pacific languages.

This role is working across the pay equity and employment relations team. Our team is a vibrant, fast-paced as we work to investigate, settle and implement bargaining within the education sector.


Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

Do you have a love of understanding the why behind decisions but also of making things happen? If so, we are looking for you.

We are looking for someone who can identify emerging issues and risks and propose and implement solutions. We are looking for someone with change management experience who can ensure that our bargaining outcomes can be implemented effectively. We are looking for a person who places people at the centre of change process, products and implementation.


Mōhou ake | About you

We are looking for an experienced Change Manager with a track record in establishing and running a change practice as well as leading significant change projects and business initiatives.

You will also offer:

  • Previous and extensive change management experience;
  • The ability to plan and manage a complex work programme whilst advising and influencing at a senior level;
  • Knowledge of union practices and approaches and how to work effectively with unions towards common goals;
  • Strong skills in managing risk and emerging issues;
  • Strong skills to develop and deliver best practice change management practices to ensure effective implementation;
  • the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
