At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

We are making significant changes to how we deliver our mahi by

  • Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Giving priority to regional and local voice.
  • Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support.
  • Improving feedback loops and information flows.

About our group and team

Te Mahau | Te Pae Aronui (Operations & Integration). We use information, insights and service design functions to help the three Te Mahau frontline groups design and deliver services for our sector.

As part of Te Mahau, Te Pae Aronui provides the service design, data insights, regulation, learning and other support our three frontline Te Mahau regional teams, and ākonga rely on.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Pae Aronui in the Ministry. Learning Support is focussed on delivering an inclusive education system, where every child and young person feels a sense of belonging, is present, makes progress, where their wellbeing is safeguarded and promoted, where learning is a lifelong journey, and where those with learning support needs get the right support at the right time in schools, kura and early childhood settings.

Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, expertise and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential. We also directly provide Learning Support for around 40,000 children and young people.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

This role manages a team of specialist staff who support strengthening the inclusion for all children and young people with a focus on learners who are at risk of not achieving educational success without additional support. The team provides advice and guidance to Ministers, national and regional staff, and input into cross agency work to support the development and delivery of evidence-informed services and support. Some of the current portfolios include, early intervention, deaf and hard of hearing, child and youth wellbeing school-based wellbeing initiatives and behavioural interventions.

Mōhou ake | About you

  • We are looking for a manager with proven experience who can lead a team of specialists and support the Ministry to meet our Learning Support service obligations
  • This role is a challenging and rewarding one, working with senior managers and staff across the Ministry of Education and the offices of our Ministers
  • You will plan and lead strategic and operational initiatives and projects of the team that are culturally supportive and take practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • The Manager National Service Support and Guidance will join a close-knit team of managers and staff in the Service Delivery function committed to providing great service to our customers and the public
