Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko | Infrastructure & Digital – Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, leads inclusive, accessible and integrated national, digital and physical infrastructure and transport services to the education system.

The Infrastructure Procurement team within Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko is a vibrant and diverse team, where no two days are the same. We work together with our partners to deliver effective, inclusive procurement solutions.
School Transport is the second largest purchaser of passenger services in New Zealand (after Auckland Transport) and has been managing the transport of students to and from school for over 130 years.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Regional Transport Advisor is responsible for managing key relationships by conducting face to face visits with schools/kura, building meaningful and positive relationships with stakeholders and representing the Ministry at a regional level. This will include travel within your regions of responsibility.
You will design and optimise Ministry contracted bus routes to ensure to ensure the effective and efficient use of limited resources to remove barriers to education. This includes reviewing priority routes, designing safe and efficient routes for eligible students, consulting with schools regarding proposed changes, assessing the suitability of public transport options and managing transition plans within designated time frames.

Mōhou ake | About you
You will have a breadth of knowledge and experience in transport planning, ideally in a government setting.
To be successful in this role you will also need:
- Qualification to tertiary level and/or appropriate work experience.
- Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence
- School or public transport service planning/management experience (desired but not mandatory)
- Technical skills and ability e.g. ArcGIS systems, Mapinfo, SQL (desired but not mandatory)
- Excellent oral and written communications, including the ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely (essential).
- Experience in stakeholder communications
- Relationship management skills, a high level of tact, diplomacy and patience
- Ability to work as a member of a remote national team
- Being easy to work with and a good team player.
