Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Research Fellow to join the Health Services Research Centre (HSRC) on a full-time fixed term contract through until September 2023. The successful applicant will carry out research to an international standard working on established projects on primary health care, including the studies “The challenge of closed books in primary care access, health outcomes and equity in Aotearoa New Zealand” and “Enhancing primary health care services to improve health in Aotearoa New Zealand”.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to project design and ongoing development.
- Plan, conduct, analyse and document data collection through interviews and surveys according to the research plan.
- Contribute to the preparation of project reports/manuscripts for publication.
- Engage with team members, external collaborators and stakeholders.
- Various research related activities across HSRC projects as needed.
Ō pūmanawa – About you
Key Requirements:
- A completed Master’s or PhD in a relevant field, or relevant experience.
- Familiarity with the New Zealand Primary Health Care sector, in particular General Practices.
- A track record in research, including experience in key research tasks, such as data collection and analysis and writing reports and journal articles and oral presentations.
- Ability to project manage aspects of the project(s).
- Excellent team player with the ability to work collegially and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team, and with internal and external stakeholders.
Additional desirable skills:
- Experience in qualitative research and conducting interviews.
- Experience in developing and conducting surveys through Qualtrics or similar survey tool.
- Experience in conducting research on health equity.
- Experience in conducting health research in consultation with Māori.

The Centre is a New Zealand leader in health services research with a highly successful history in research and publication. We offer a diverse and stimulating academic environment, with a multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively on issues relating to the health system, health services, disability and disability services, Māori health and Pacific health. As a member of the team, you will be able to interact with other colleagues and learn from the other ongoing projects. We offer you flexible working arrangements and various learning & development programs, including for Te reo Māori. The Centre is located in the heart of downtown Wellington, in the historic Old Government Building.
