Position Summary:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Staff Specialist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant will be responsible for service standards, patient throughput, continuing education, research, training of staff and students as well as liaison with key stakeholders and other relevant professional bodies. The Infectious Diseases Staff Specialist is responsible for the provision of specialist viral hepatitis services, testing and management of at risk patients for the early detection and treatment of blood borne viruses including Hepatitis B, C and HIV and sexually transmissible infections to custodial patients at Parklea Correctional Centre. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a unique and complex health environment delivering best practice health care to custodial patients. The St Vincent’s Correctional Health Team is a dynamic and supportive team of multidisciplinary health professionals that provide patient focussed care to custodial patients at Parklea Correctional Centre.

The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Possession of Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Infectious Diseases or its equivalent;
  • Possession, or eligibility for, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia of the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Infectious Diseases with knowledge and experience in the management of complex infectious disorders;
  • Demonstrated expertise in antimicrobial stewardship;
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels;
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management;
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuit of clinical research in relevant areas;
