Team Leader (3 MUs)

Full-time, Fixed-term (September to December 2022)

Based in Christchurch

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand’s largest school. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education for learners from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners.

We currently have a vacancy for a Team Leader to join the Southern team in Christchurch.

As Team Leader you will lead a team of Kaiako (Teachers) and Kaiāwhina who are focused on the achievement of students in a designated geographical area. All teachers act as Kaiako to an authentic learning advisory group, and teach an integrated curriculum.

The person we are looking for must possess great interpersonal skills and have a proven record of managing a diverse group of teachers, plus a track record of working positively to embrace organisational strategic directions. You will manage the team, build a dynamic teaching and learning environment and ensure the delivery of high quality teaching and pastoral support to our diverse students. Being able to develop strategies for targeting groups of students at risk of not achieving and getting results is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to further develop their expertise in:

  • leadership and management, including performance and staff development
  • enabling students to achieve a high level of achievement
  • planning and assessment for 21st century students, including e-learning
  • effective relationship management, and
  • the provision of quality pastoral support

Experience in distance education is not essential, but you must have the ability to learn, adapt, and be flexible. You must also be competent and comfortable with online learning.

There is a teaching component to this role so applicants must be trained teachers with current NZ registration and relevant qualifications. The role attracts three Management Units.
