This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to take on the challenge of a senior nursing leadership role at the Wairarapa DHB. You will join a professional and dedicated team, and be supported with an orientation programme into this role, as well as support for ongoing professional development.
Wairarapa DHB serves a mainly rural population of around 48,000. Wairarapa Hospital has up to 92 beds and provides most secondary services including Acute Services with associated High Dependency Unit, medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and rehabilitation. The hospital campus includes Selina Sutherland Private Hospital.
The Duty Nurse Manager (DNM) has delegated responsibility for the after hour’s operational management of hospital services, including crisis and facility management, supported by the Duty Executive.
The DNM team works in partnership with other staff – clinical and non-clinical – to ensure the safe, efficient and effective running of the hospital. This includes ensuring appropriate transitions of care for the deteriorating patient, coordination of resource utilisation, and upholding continuous quality improvement and standards of nursing practice.
The DNM demonstrates and applies a high level of clinical expertise either directly or by coaching and supporting junior staff, particularly after-hours.
Decision making is made based on data available utilising such tools such as TrendCare as well as clinical judgement.
This is a part time, fixed term position working 56 hours a fortnight and for a period of up to 6 months.
