Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiārahi Ako – Learning Adviser to join the Te Taiako – Student Learning team on a permanent full-time contract. The role will provide tertiary academic and study skills support for students on both individual and group teaching basis.
Key responsibilities:
- To work with students at all levels of study to develop their independent learning skills and support their university transition, retention, and achievement.
- To develop and facilitate student centred, well researched, and relevant workshop programmes and courses to meet student needs.
- To provide professional individual student consultations.
- To collaborate with academic staff on student learning issues and work to improve retention and achievement.
Ō pūmanawa – About you
You will be a motivated, client-focused individual who can take the initiative, work autonomously as well as effectively as a team member.
You will respect and work effectively with people from diverse linguistic, cultural, ethnic, religious and other backgrounds. You need to demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and be adaptable to changeable circumstances.
Key requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in an educational context.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification and research experience.
- Proven experience teaching tertiary students and/or an understanding of adult education needs.
- Knowledge of the university or tertiary environment.
- Proven ability teaching in individual appointments and large and small group teaching settings.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver specified writing and study skills courses at tertiary level.
