NIWA is a dynamic research organisation and New Zealand’s largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater and marine science. Our core purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand’s aquatic resources and environments, to provide an understanding of climate and the atmosphere, and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.
NIWA hosts the Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge, a government funded inter-disciplinary and multi-agency initiative which aims to enhance the utilisation of our marine resources in a sustainable way. This Challenge brings together an interdisciplinary research programme focused on developing the framework for ecosystem-based management of New Zealand’s marine environment.
The role of Challenge Administrator has the key function of providing management support for the Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge, supporting the Challenge Director, Challenge Manager and Challenge Leadership Team. National Science Challenges are fast paced and multi-faceted, the administrator needs to think fast and respond to tight deadlines and be comfortable working in a busy environment. An ability to work in a close collaborative manner with the management team is essential. You will provide administrative support including contracting, minute taking, meeting and event management, editing and preparation of documents, maintenance of Sharepoint site and organisation of travel.
Based at NIWA’s Wellington office, you will be working alongside a wide range of researchers and the Challenge Director.
You will have at least 2 to 5 years’ worth of relevant experience, and have a positive, constructive and collaborative approach to your work. Your willingness to roll up your sleeves and take on whatever is required to get the job done alongside others will stand you in good stead. A high energy level combined with excellent planning, organising and execution is required.
