Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About the role

The Academic Manager – Performing Arts works as part of the Creative Industries leadership team to deliver high quality tertiary education experiences. Inspiring and supporting colleagues through change, making strategy meaningful and driving high performance are critical to this role’s success. We are looking for an academic leader with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. You will need a passion for performing arts, collaboration, connecting people, problem solving and continuous improvement.

You will:

  • Be responsible for the delivery of quality education programmes within the area of Performing Arts.
  • Have oversight of programmes, courses and delivery in the Performing Arts space, including opportunities for learners to collaborate.
  • Establish and maintain links with relevant professional, community and industry groups for advice and support.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the annual schedule of performances and events within NASDA and Music programmes.
  • Work with the HOD in the building of a strong identity for Ara and the Department as a national and international leader in the delivery of quality programmes.

  • Empower, energise and inspire staff, students, industry and community stakeholders and team colleagues around the Department/Division’s vision and mission.
  • Strong academic/educational knowledge to lead staff through the development of courses and programmes to meet the needs of future graduates
  • Skills in developing and maintaining strong, positive working relationships with stakeholders from a range of relevant industries, professions and communities
  • Strength in using sophisticated administrative processes and management information associated with complex environments.
  • Resource management and recruitment experience
  • Promote and facilitate research at the cutting edge
  • Financial experience, including setting and allocating budgets, and strong spreadsheet and data skills
  • Anticipate business as well as responding to changes appropriately and innovatively.
