About the opportunity:

Our client plays an integral part in its worldwide network of over 160 Catholic relief, development, and social service organisations. For the role of Advocacy Analyst, they are seeking someone with a passion for justice and peace, a commitment to Catholic social teaching, a desire to be a voice for the poor and vulnerable. This unique work opportunity is for someone who is able to bring their strengths in advocacy, research or policy work to promote the common good. 

Role description:

The Advocacy Analyst supports the engagement team to deliver high-quality advocacy, research, analysis, and engagement work on social justice issues both globally and locally. In the role, you will help research issues and assist in developing advocacy strategies to advance the Caritas Mission and strategic goals. Part of this work will be to encourage the participation of the Catholic community in Caritas programmes. You will work closely with the Engagement team members and those of other Caritas teams to ensure work synergies are recognised and effectively utilised.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the work of the Engagement team in advocating / researching for justice and peace
  • Support with the preparation and production of submissions and social justice resources
  • Support in strengthening the Catholic social justice network within NZ and internationally
  • Liaise with social justice stakeholders, Diocesan Justice and Peace Commissions, refugee, migrant, youth, environmental and other groups as required to deliver the projects
  • Liaise as required with Māori Catholics, to ensure advocacy work is well informed by Māori reo, Tikanga and experiences including appropriate use of Te Reo Māori in resources
  • Facilitate cooperation between Catholic social justice networks
  • Raise awareness about the work of the company and engage supporters in that work
  • Co-ordinate the resource development and preparation and promotion of the company
  • Assist with research, collection of data and presentations for responsive advocacy
  • Support other advocacy or engagement projects as appropriate
  • Support strategic engagement with Dioceses and Parishes as appropriate

This role will suit someone with the following background / experience / qualities:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, politics, social science or a related field
  • Resilient, a good listener and self-motivated
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong relationship management or project management skills
  • Current NZ Drivers Licence
  • Availability to travel nationally as required
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Understanding of / or experience in New Zealand government and policy-making processes

They also promote advocacy and education for justice in New Zealand and overseas, and we play an integral part in the company’s worldwide network of 160 Catholic relief, development, and social service organisations. Currently, they have 20 staff working in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.
