Are you seeking an entry-level role in an interesting environment where no two days are the same? A vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Animal Care Technician to support research activities at the Biomedical Research Unit based in Palmerston North.
The role/Te mahi
We are looking for an Assistant Animal Care Technician to help within our Facilities.
- Providing daily animal husbandry and care for a range of animals.
- Maintaining and managing breeding colonies of animals under conventional and specific pathogen free conditions.
- Cleaning animal holding pens and facility sanitisation.
- Operation of cage-wash machines and autoclaves.
Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
- No history of allergies.
- Able to maintain accurate, neat and legible handwritten or electronic records.
- Must have basic computer literacy skills.
- Confidence in operating technical equipment, and/or prior animal handling experience would be an advantage.
- Applicants should have a reasonable level of fitness as the work requires heavy lifting.

This is a part-time (30 hour per week) fixed term position for one year.
Weekend and Statutory holiday work will be required on a rostered basis.
