Horsley Park Public School is a dynamic school that prides itself on the excellent educational programs offered by its dedicated staff, assisting 90 students (38% non-English speaking background, 8% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background) to develop and extend their talents in a safe and supportive environment.

The school has four mainstream classes and five support classes catering for students with autism and/or a moderate intellectual disability with autism. These classes are supported with a teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO). Students, staff and parents enjoy the benefits associated with a small school – personalised learning, yet as a member of the Cowpasture Network of Schools, students are provided with access to the benefits of a large school community including interschool sport, cultural performances, debating competitions and leadership opportunities.

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience in providing leadership and quality teaching and learning to differentiate for all students with autism, mild and moderate intellectual disabilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead a support unit while effectively managing the dual roles of Assistant Principal and exemplary classroom teacher with the proven ability to develop relationships, work collaboratively and build staff capacity to ensure a cohesive, effective team to enhance student learning and wellbeing outcomes. To include leading consultation planning the implementation and review of individual education plans and risk management plans in the Support Unit and across multiple settings.
  • Outstanding evidence of high impact collaboration with school learning and support teams, School Learning Support Officers, health providers, external stakeholders and understanding families from diverse backgrounds from a high non-English speaking background.
  • High level communication skills and the ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership and school team to facilitate whole school practice, including strategic planning, leading, and monitoring initiatives and applying evaluative practices to drive continuous improvement with a focus on equity.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm full vaccination status prior to the Department of Education finalising the appointment of the candidate and entry on duty.
