JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Scranton is seeking a part-time professional writing tutor to serve as the Blue and White OWL coordinator, under the umbrella of the Penn State Scranton Learning and Writing Center. The Center oversees the campus’s peer, faculty, and professional tutoring services and academic skills development programs.

In this position, the selected candidate will:

  • Process student registrations for this online resource
  • Review and provide feedback on student submissions
  • Maintain accurate records of submission details and hours worked
  • Regularly communicate with the Writing Center Coordinator
  • Refer students for one-on-one tutoring as needed

A demonstrated knowledge of academic writing and MLA, APA, and Chicago citation styles is essential. The successful candidate should have proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; strong written communication skills; the ability to learn new software and technology; and the ability to work under deadlines and to set priorities. Experience working with Canvas is beneficial. A master’s degree is preferred, although a candidate with a bachelor’s degree and one year of related work experience would be considered.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
