At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team
Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce is a key part of the Ministry.
We develop the education workforce strategy, including a focus on specialist services, employment relations, pay equity, education payroll, supply and scholarship functions. Our group ensures the system has the right people in the right places at the right time for early learning, kōhanga reo, schools and kura. We have links to tertiary education organisations, in particular wānanga, iwi and Māori, peak bodies and others, in the co-design of solutions to workforce challenges, such as provision of teachers with te reo and mātauranga Māori knowledge and Pacific languages.
This role is working across the pay equity and employment relations team. Our team is a vibrant, fast-paced as we work to investigate, settle and implement bargaining within the education sector.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
Do you have a love of understanding people but also of making things happen? If so, we are looking for you. We are looking for someone who can identify emerging issues and risks and can find practical and human centred solutions. Someone who can lead co-design processes and develop feedback loops with stakeholders. People are at the heart of what we do and we put them at the centre of every change process, product and decision.
Day-to-day you will be leading the change planning, management and implementation expertise to support the design and delivery of initiatives across Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga. You will provide operational change advisory, planning, and implementation expertise to support the delivery of change initiatives and activities across TPOM with a particular focus on supporting the implementation of changes to contractual settings and systems.
Mōhou ake | About you
To be successful in this role you’ll be able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure implementation and change activities are aligned with broader team and across all Ministry change activities.
You will also offer:
- 5 – 7 years experience working in change management
- Certifications / qualifications in Service Design and / or continuous improvement methods or successful delivery of service design methodologies and techniques
- Qualifications in project management, eg, PRINCE2, Agile Project Management
- Ability to work at pace to deliver quality work
- Proven experience to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Experience in identifying and providing advice on emerging issues;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver outcomes;
- The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
