Job Description

  • Leadership and relationship management focus
  • Part time hours considered
  • Ideally Wellington based but other locations considered

Christian hospital chaplains have played an integral part in contributing to the health and wellbeing of patients, their families and whanau, and hospital staff since the first missionaries came to New Zealand. The Interchurch Council for Hospital Chaplaincy (ICHC) was established in 1996 and is a collaboration between churches and associated bodies to provide Christian ecumenical hospital chaplaincy services in the public hospital system. ICHC is committed to governing, managing and providing hospital chaplaincy services in a manner which honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and meets the aspirations of Māori.

Reporting to the Trust Board Chair, the Chief Executive will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organisation’s operational activities in order to ensure that effective, efficient and compliant chaplaincy services are provided throughout the hospital network.

Your ability to build enduring relationships of trust and confidence will see you continuing to raise ICHC’s profile, advocate for hospital chaplaincy at a national level, and further develop a positive workplace culture which values staff, high performance and continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to ICHC’s future, and could be suitable for either an experienced Chief Executive or emerging senior leader. This is a full time role based in Wellington central, although applications from other New Zealand locations and those seeking part time options will be considered.

Person Profile:

  • Understanding of and ability to lead consistent with the Christian function of the ICHC Ministry
  • Experience working within the New Zealand health system would be advantageous
  • A confident leader with the ability to drive and encourage performance and best practice
  • Proven business acumen and financial literacy
  • A connector and collaborator with a track record of success in building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • The ability to work within a changing environment
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Sound judgement and integrity in all decisions and actions
  • Consultative and open style with a ‘no surprises’ approach

It is a requirement for the successful candidate to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and be able to provide a vaccine pass as evidence.
