  • Permanent part time 0.8 FTE position

The Team: What we do

Not only is the Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service the largest provider of oncology services in the South Island, we are leaders in clinical practice and research at the forefront of clinical developments and quality models of care. The Medical Oncology Service is based at Christchurch Hospital.

The Role: Where you fit in

The new Clinical Nurse Specialist model of care is co-designed to work in partnership with our medical oncology teams to ensure optimal, timely patient care and delivery of service.

You will:

  • Support and work alongside our patients, and their whanau/family, through their journey following cancer diagnosis.
  • Apply nursing knowledge, utilise your specialised assessment skills, with strong clinical inquiry and critical thinking when determining care of patients in OTR (on treatment review) clinics.
  • Contribute to processes, pathways, policies and procedures to ensure safe, quality care to our patients.
  • Role model and lead continued development of evidence-based oncology nursing practice and share this knowledge with the Registered Nurses in the medical oncology service.
  • Act as a specialist resource for new and existing staff, ensuring staff are fully supported and provided with opportunities to develop.

Your support and empathy accompanied with your excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships with a strong patient focus will see you succeed in this exciting opportunity.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in oncology or with cancer patients, within an acute setting is essential. Knowledge of chemotherapy treatment is essential.
  • A postgraduate advanced health assessment qualification, with a view to obtaining a Nurse prescribing qualification is desirable.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC.
