Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for performing delegated tasks and procedures involving human subjects in support of clinical research protocols.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist PI in development of protocol-specific tools to aid in study documentation
    • Assess eligibility of research subjects in accordance with the approved protocol and all applicable regulations including HIPAA
    • Obtain patient consent and Human Subject Committee approvals for minimal-risk studies as delegated by IRB-approved protocol
    • Collect, record, evaluate, update, and store/transport pertinent data and samples in relation to protocol
    • Track study enrollment and completion of milestones
    • Summarize research findings and prepare presentations
    • Perform literature searches
    • Schedule patient tests and/or interviews
    • Conduct patient telephone follow up
    • Stock, inventory, store, and order samples/supplies as needed to maintain appropriate operations
    • Review medical records and medical record abstractions for consistency and completeness
    • Comply with established policies, health and safety regulations and requirements, procedures, and department objectives
    • Maintain patient and study subject confidentiality
    • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or health care field, or related experience
  • Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

The Transitions to Adulthood Center for Research sits within the Implementation Science & Practice Advances Research Center (iSPARC) in the Department of Psychiatry. The mission of the center is to support transition age youth and young adults (ages 14-30) with serious mental health conditions in their pursuit of school and work and building successful and rewarding lives. We conduct rigorous research and dissemination activities in partnership with this at-risk population to achieve this mission.

This position is specific to the Peer Academic Supports for College Students with Serious Mental Health Conditions Study (PASS 2.0). PASS is a hybrid randomized controlled efficacy trial/implementation study to test model efficacy for academic persistence and examine implementation factors. The (PASS) academic peer coaching model aims to improve academic persistence, performance, and retention in 18-24-year-old freshmen and sophomores with SMHC. PASS Coaches (juniors and seniors) teach and coach curricula that target academic success for two semesters.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of campus services available at Boston University
  • Ability to work remotely in a quiet environment
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail
  • Interest in college mental health, research methods, and service delivery
  • Desire to work as part of a highly-collaborative, dynamic team
  • Comfort with speaking to study participants (undergraduate students)
  • Availability at flexible times (i.e. during the day, some evenings) Monday-Friday
  • Open to working varying hours per week
  • Comfort with working independently in the field once trained (with support always available!)
