Who are we?
At Christchurch City Council we are out in the community every day providing a cycle safety programme for primary schools all over the city which targets 10 and 11 year olds. It aims to improve the cycling skills of children and to encourage them to cycle more around our city. We’re looking for enthusiastic instructors who are bursting with energy to help deliver our highly regarded Cycle Safe programme. As a team, we value people who share our vision to make Christchurch a cycling city – those who turn up to work full of energy and have a true passion for the work that they do.
Who are you?
You are positive, energetic and excited to be a part of fostering a cycling culture for our youth. You will have the patience and attitude to work in this rewarding environment, seeing children gain confidence in their personal ability on a daily basis. Our environment is truly refreshing and you are given the opportunity to incorporate your enthusiasm for being active while teaching children a valuable skill. Previous experience delivering Cycle Skills training would be an advantage but is not essential.
Cycle Safe Instructor – What experience is needed?
- Sound knowledge of the road code
- Practical cycling skills and experience
- Teaching/coaching skills or experience managing groups of school students
- The ability to assist with all physical aspects of the programme
- A positive attitude with great teamwork and time management skills
- Honesty, integrity and a high level of maturity, alongside the ability to work unsupervised.
As an instructor working hours are between 8.45am and 3.00pm. You do not generally work during the school holidays but you may be required to attend any professional development sessions.
This position requires you to assist with the physical aspects of the programme and to maintain a positive attitude.

Additional recruitment information:
Salary: $22.75 – $23.55 per hour
Hours of work: Permanent part-time, minimum 5.75 hours per week (up to 17.25 hours) during school term time Monday – Friday, 8.45am – 3.00pm
A requirement of this position is that you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and have a current first aid certificate
