Position Information

Wilton Public School is a positive, inclusive and supportive environment where students, staff and the community are known, valued and cared for. The school is located in the Wollondilly Shire, on the south western fringe of the Sydney metropolitan area. The town of Wilton is composed of established housing, new housing and land development, rural land, and is earmarked for major future urban growth and development. The school has a current enrollment of 540 students enrolled across 20 mainstream classes and 6 support classes. A very small number of students identify as Aboriginal or are from an EALD background. We have a committed teaching staff encompassing experienced and early career teachers who are dedicated to constantly reflecting on and improving their practice. Teachers use the Quality Teaching Framework and work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to improve classroom practice and teacher quality. The school prioritises student well-being and recognises that social, emotional and academic growth are optimised when positive relationships exist between students and their family, peers, teachers, and the local community. This will be a newly established Deputy Principal position due area growth and an increase in student population since the school opening in 2011.

Selection Criteria

1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with exemplary skills and experience in leading high quality, innovative K-2 literacy and numeracy initiatives, informed by evidence-based teaching practices and student achievement.

2. Outstanding communication, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with proven ability to empower and sustain positive and authentic relationships with all members of the school community, building upon existing high expectations.

3. Proven experience in leading the School Excellence cycle, with a focus on evidence informed and evaluative practices, to build the capability of all staff and improve learning outcomes for all students.

4. A visible and visionary leader with proven ability to inspire, mentor and develop the capacity of all staff, with a particular focus on middle leaders and aspiring leaders, to drive whole school continuous improvement.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work , including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm full vaccination status prior to the Department of Education finalising the appointment of the candidate and entry on duty.
