Things are ramping up at Black & Gold Events – and we are on the hunt for Function Chefs of all skill levels to join our team!
The roles we are recruiting for are:
- Sous Chef – Full-time position
- Chef de Partie – Full-time position
- Junior Chef – Full-time position
- Kitchen Hand/Driver – Part-time or full-time positions available!

Black & Gold Events manage and operate in three function venues within central Wellington, The Basin Reserve, Harbourside Functions Centre, and Kumutoto as well as being actively involved in major events in the city. You will become part of a team where diversity and flexibility are key, no two days are the same, so you will gain heaps of experience!
Sous Chefs and Chef de Parties:
We are looking for 3 years experience for the Chef De Partie position & 4 years experience for the Sous Chef position. The primary purpose of a Sous Chef & Chef de Partie is to support the Head Chef and be part of the team. You are a leader, trainer and mentor to Junior Chefs and Kitchen Hands. We are looking for the “thrill” cooks, the guys that get a kick out of the teamwork required to smash out service on a busy night and come out the other side together, proud of the work they’ve done!
Junior Chefs and Kitchen Hands:
For the Junior Chef and Kitchen Hand roles, you will do a bit of everything! The primary purpose of a Junior Chef is to support the other members of your team. This is a developmental role with the aim to expand on your cookery skills, as well as management skills, so as to one day run the kitchen. Through supporting the other chefs in your team, you will absorb skills that will help you develop your culinary career. A Kitchen Hand will be responsible for making sure that the kitchen is clean, to assisting the chefs in preparing high-quality food for customers. Most world-renowned Chefs and TV Chefs (even the pretentious ones) started their career as a Kitchen Hand! You will also need to possess a clean, full New Zealand Driver’s License to be successful for the Kitchen Hand role.
