Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About the role

This is a key teaching and supervisory role in our tutor team delivering courses in the Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications degree programme and includes actively engaging in applied research.

The wider NZBS tutor team is responsible for the development of relevant, current and challenging course content across screen, television, radio and emerging on-line media. Presently, the team is undertaking to increase Kaupapa Māori content both in curriculum and in story content. Associated with this is a capability development journey for both the team as individuals and as a collective. This role would play an important role in contributing to the growth of kaupapa and mātauranga Māori within the team and curriculum.

The primary focus is leading the development and delivery of kaupapa Māori informed journalism learning (using radio, video and digital platforms), but it also involves coordinating industry guests and part-time tutor contributions, teaching/assessing across the entire degree, lecturing in media ecology and supervising applied student research and projects and students in industry. Recent experience gathering and writing radio news is preferable as well as an understanding of how newsrooms are run.

Broadcast and electronic media content is now delivered to audiences on multiple platforms so, in addition to traditional broadcast platforms, there is an increasing focus on preparing students for future changes in media production and media business. To that end, the role requires up-to-date knowledge and experience and the appointee will significantly contribute to the on-going research outputs of the school in relation to current and future media practice.

• Experience in file-based production and delivery systems

• The ability to contribute to research outputs.
• Time management skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently administer, organise, co-ordinate activities, and meet deadlines.
• Engagement with assessment and feedback processes.
• Digital literacy including – competence using a computer (including Microsoft office products)
• Capable of engaging respectfully and positively with whānau, ‘āiga, communities from many cultures and diverse backgrounds at all levels within and outside the organization.
• The ability to build and maintain constructive and cooperative relationships with academic peers as well as media industry employers and policy-makers
