At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and genuinely understanding the needs of those who receive our services.
We are making significant changes to how we deliver our mahi by
- Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Giving priority to regional and local voice.
- Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support.
- Improving feedback loops and information flows.

About our group and team
This is a great time to join Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga as it reshapes itself for the future and takes on more proactive external and internal communications. There is a strong internal focus to the role, however it would suit a generalist who can provide strategic support to leaders and business partners for both internal and external communications.
Mōhou ake | About you
You will be a sharp planner, adept at working strategically across multiple channels, and be a genuine team player. Building resilient relationships comes as second nature and working to pro-actively meet our internal customers’ expectations is a given. In what is an ever-changing and fast paced environment you will be a key enabler for internal communications across our wider business and change activity.
You’ll have a track record of identifying both strategic and tactical internal communications opportunities which delivered measurable increases in engagement.
In short you will become the ‘go-to person’ for internal communications across Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
Critical to this role is a strong focus on our key customers’ needs and proven relationship-building skills. Given we are moving to a new way of working, senior level internal communications experience within a nationally dispersed and large organisation is essential.
This is a fixed term role until March 2023, but we would consider part-time or flexible hours for the right candidate.
