Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to support ongoing research activities related Quake-CoRE’s Disciplinary Theme (DT) 2 ‘The Whole-of-Building’. A key goal of this Theme is the design of a large-scale experiment to test ideas towards the production of buildings that can go back into operation soon after a large earthquake. That requires adequate dynamic response of ‘the whole of building’ including structural elements, non-structural components, and equipment. Rapid return to function is a big challenge for New Zealand. The earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 demonstrated in categorical terms that much needs to be done to achieve that goal. The experiment to be designed by the Postdoctoral Fellow will represent a critical step towards the goal. He/she will also help promote the experiment among international partners (e.g. EDEFEN of Japan, and NCREE of Taiwan) to ensure its completion in later phases of QuakeCoRE.
Mōu | Who You Are
You have a PhD in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural engineering, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and reinforced concrete structures. You also have strong experience in large-scale structural testing as well as experience with instrumentation, calibration, reduction of experimental data, and preparation of research reports.
As well as the above, you will have experience that demonstrates excellent research planning and leadership capabilities. A publication track record as well as experience with preparation and delivery of quality oral presentations to a wide range of audiences is essential. Strong computer literacy and numeric skills, use of database management tools and statistical analysis software, and modelling skills would be an advantage.
