The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of Psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Project Officer in our Membership and Events team.

A newly created role, this position is responsible for the delivery of the Aotearoa New Zealand Psychiatry Interest Forum (PIF) project. The program aims to support recruitment into the psychiatry specialisation by generating new opportunities and delivering culturally appropriate initiatives for medical students and doctors who may be interested in pursuing psychiatry as their career.


This role has a specific focus to:

  • Develop and implement the NZ PIF program in collaboration with the wider PIF program team, New Zealand National Office staff and the PIF Advisory Group.
  • Grow Mori and Pasifika medical students’ membership of the program and ensuring members are able to engage with key leaders within psychiatry.
  • Deliver program outcomes including project, event or activity coordination and administration, research, analysis, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Work together with the PIF program team and the NZ National Office to ensure the timely delivery of NZ PIF workshops, events, networking opportunities and other activities; and support PIF members to take part in RANZCP conferences and short course programs.
  • Consult widely, engaging with and providing reports to stakeholders including universities, committees, government and other external organisations.
  • Promote and market the program effectively, including the acquisition, retention and conversion of PIF members into the RANZCP training program.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination/program administration skills including, planning, analysis, implementation, project evaluation and reporting.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills including the ability to manage numerous tasks concurrently, establish priorities, work to tight or competing deadlines and adapt to meet changing demands.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with a high degree of autonomy, and as a member of a both the PIF project team and the NZ National Office, balanced with the ability to initiate and progress work independently and in line with team objectives and priorities.
  • The ability to build relationships, work collaboratively, harmoniously and consultatively with other College staff, relevant committees and working group, and external agencies, universities, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge or understanding of medical education and/or New Zealand health system context.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Knowledge and experience of research methodologies, monitoring and evaluation.
