The role/Te mahi

We are looking for an experienced Research Programme Administrator to manage and administer the day-to-day activities and financial management of research programmes and projects at the University of Otago, Wellington.

The primary focus of this role will be working with the Whakahā O Te Pā Harakeke Programme led by professor Janet Hoek, Professor Richard Edwards and Senior Research Fellow Anaru Waa. The Whakahā o Te Pā Harakeke programme aims to develop evidence that will close smoking disparities, particularly for Māori and Pasifika. The team’s work strives to enhance how tobacco control evidence is used in decision making and accelerate progress towards a Smokefree Aotearoa.

As the Research Programme Administrator, you will work with academic staff at the Department of Public Health, University of Otago, Wellington and our research partners. As a superior multi-tasker, you will relish being part of an intellectually stimulating environment that will draw on, challenge and enhance your project management, administrative support and communication skills.

Essential

  • Tertiary level qualification or equivalent body of knowledge appropriate to the role.
  • 5+ years project administration/financial administration experience.
  • Excellent cultural competence, communication and organisational skills particularly in working with Māori and Pacific researchers and communities.
  • Expertise in working with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Good communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred

  • Research management and administration experience in a research/academic environment.
  • Project management skills and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of general principles of public health.
  • An interest in health inequalities and the socio-economic determinants of health.
  • Competence with MS Teams, Finance 1 (or similar financial management system), WordPress, Content Management System (or similar web maintenance software), MS Access and Endnote.
  • Experience with website development and maintenance.

This is a fixed term, part time role (0.5 FTE until 31 August 2024), based in Wellington.
