The Infrastructure and Facilities Services (IFS) forms part of the Resources Division at the University of Newcastle. IFS provide a range of campus services and aim to develop new infrastructure whilst maintaining existing facilities. The IFS team strive to ensure that the University’s infrastructure incorporates the technological and physical needs in order to maintain positive staff and student experience.

Be part of something bigger

In this role, the focus will be on ensuring that the University security systems are operating effectively by identifying and troubleshooting faults, performing compliance checks and auditing systems. You will work on version upgrades in collaboration with the IT department to improve security systems. Supporting the Systems Coordinator, you will have a thorough understanding of electronic security systems, configuration and integration. Furthermore, you will review access permissions and provide relevant access to both internal and external stakeholders and provide recommendations to improve relevant policies and procedures and assist with the implementation of these changes.

This full-time ongoing position, located at the Callaghan Campus.

How will you inspire us?

We are seeking an individual who is flexible, customer focussed and can work well individually and in a team environment. Excellent communication skills, as well as an ability to build strong relationships and engage with key stakeholders will be highly regarded. You are solutions driven and technologically focussed; assisting the University in becoming a leader in security systems by improving the efficiency of systems. It is expected that the successful candidate will have security systems experience and experience working with any of the following systems is highly desirable: Gallagher access control system, Avigilon CCTV system and the Traka electronic key management system.

The remuneration is from $71,298 to $82,707 FTE (HEW 5) + 17% superannuation.

  • Response to the following Essential Criteria:

1. Possess, or a willingness to obtain, a class 2AB NSW Security Licence, with at least two years relevant experience; or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of tertiary education, training and/or experience.

2. Demonstrated high level of proficiency in managing, programming, troubleshooting tasks within access control, CCTV, Key Management and other related security systems.

3. Demonstrated high standard of fault analysis within access control, CCTV, Key Management and other related security systems, and the ability to troubleshoot difficult electronic system problems

4. Demonstrated technical understanding of card encryption standards, technologies and methodology.

5. High level of critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
