At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team
Te Pae Aronui was established within Te Mahau as part of a wider change to provide the education sector with support and services that are more locally responsive, more accessible, and more integrated. In the Early Childhood Group, we really care about New Zealand’s youngest learners. We are looking for someone who shares our passion.
Our focus is to empower the early learning sector to meet standards, drive continuous improvement and accountability. We do this through a mix of:
- advice and guidance
- support to regional staff
- contracting of service providers to raise participation and quality
- clarifying interpretations and determine impacts on new legislation
- translating policy into practice.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
This role sits within the Early Childhood Regulatory Assurance and Practice team. You will work closely with other teams within the Early Childhood Group and Regional ECE Education Advisors.
Your focus will be on advising on regulatory requirements, responding to regulatory non-compliance, operationalising new requirements, and enabling best practice within the organisation.

Mōhou ake | About you
Among the skills you will bring:
- Experience working in a regulatory environment, including experience interpreting and understanding legislation
- Experience in managing regulatory risks is desirable
- Proven ability to navigate complex issues and concepts and comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- Ability to identify problems, synthesise and interpret information, think critically, and provide practical solutions.
- Ability to get stuff done, demonstrate sound judgment, consult, and seek advice where necessary
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- A good understanding of public sector processes and the machinery of government.
- A relevant qualification is desirable.
