Be challenged and imagine with us
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be responsible to assist the University in achieving its strategic objectives by providing pragmatic and commercially sensible legal advice, while maintaining independence and objectivity. In this role you will advise the executive, academic and administrative stakeholders on a broad range of legal issues in a highly regulated environment. Operating in a highly complex environment, you will be responsible for your own files, and you will manage your own clients.
This is an ongoing, full-time position and is located at the Callaghan Campus.

How will you inspire us?
This opportunity will suit someone with at least five years of experience who can work within a complex and stimulating environment. You will have a genuine interest and capacity to work with multiple stakeholders, effectively providing sound advice and building meaningful relationships. You will be able to maintain strong relationships across the organisation. You will enjoy working as part of a dynamic and cohesive team. To be successful we are seeking a quick learner with a positive attitude that has:
- Tertiary qualifications in law with at least five years of relevant post qualification experience, with in-house experience desirable;
- Outstanding ability to negotiate, advise upon and draft complex commercial arrangements;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and deliver expected outcomes within competing deadlines;
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills, particularly conveying complex information and preparing high level presentations, reports and briefings at a senior level;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including internal clients, senior executive, external law firms, funding bodies, and government agencies;
- Demonstrated leadership capability including the ability to lead/inspire a team of professional staff to deliver exceptional performance/outcomes; and
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace obligations to, and experience in leading and cultivating workplace practices and behaviours that, promote, support and maintain a safe, healthy, equitable, diverse and respectful workplace; including responding appropriately to adverse accidents, incidents, behaviours, issues and reports.
Conditions & Benefits
HEW Level 10 – $128,332 plus 17% superannuation.
