Market Insights sits within the Strategy & Insights directorate in MPI’s Policy and Trade branch. Policy & Trade provides strategic thinking, analysis, and policy advice to Government. It also negotiates market access arrangements and oversees international government-to-government relationships.29

The Market Insights team provides government and industry decision makers with evidence-based advice built around innovative market intelligence, international trend monitoring including new product launches, consumer research in our key export markets, data analytics and visualisation, and financial analysis.
Our core functions include:
- Identifying and defining new opportunities and risks to New Zealand’s primary sectors in export markets
- Discovering new markets for New Zealand’s products
- Identifying opportunities to innovate and capture greater value for New Zealand exporters
- Generating, refining, and evaluating different strategies to grow market share; and
- Monitoring performance and improving our understanding of export success.

You will enjoy being part of a busy team that works together to solve complex issues, and collaborates with diverse groups of stakeholders on a range of issues.
You do not need previous experience in primary industries, but you will have a keen interest in learning more about the sector.
