At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga – Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team

Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko – Infrastructure and Digital – Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga – Ministry of Education, leads inclusive, accessible and integrated national, digital and physical infrastructure and transport services to the education system.

You will join The Infrastructure Services team part of our Operations and Infrastructure division providing technical support for core infrastructure services. We have an assortment of technologies along with a raft of monitoring and security tools.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established high performing team supporting leading edge products and the Ministry’s function across the education sector.

As a Senior System Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring that the systems you are responsible for operate in an efficient and effective manner thereby providing customers with a high level of application availability and performance.

To be successful, you will also offer

  • demonstrated operational knowledge and experience of Microsoft Servers within a VMware environment.
  • comprehensive understanding of Windows Domain Controllers, Active Directory, Group Policy and PowerShell.
  • solid understanding of Windows security, networking, patching and updating, antivirus, and a sound understanding of supporting Infrastructure applications.
  • Good knowledge of AWS Cloud Infrastructure services
  • prior experience in an environment maintaining and supporting mission critical systems ensuring the core infrastructure services continue to operate effectively.
  • the ability to communicate effectively at both a business and technical level.
  • Be service orientated in your thinking.
  • Be an excellent team player who can collaborate, guide and mentor.
  • a great sense of humour
