Some information about Traffic Control and some of the day to day duties you could be involved/trained in…

Responsible for setting up, managing and removing temporary traffic control. Requires regular physical manual effort, with a requirement to stand for 8 to 10 hours per day handling a Stop-Go bat, or managing other similar traffic control signs and devices, regardless of weather conditions. Must be able to operate in a team environment and assist all team members in the performance of their duties.  

  •  Performing tasks associated with traffic management and in accordance with NZTA.  
  • Accurately layout a traffic management scheme in accordance with basic rules, from a generic traffic control diagram (TCD) or formal traffic management plan (TMP).  
  • Correctly complete site hazard assessments and implement control measures to suit the site.  
  • Loading and unloading vehicles with signage, road cones and associated devices.
  • Operate and communicate effectively two way radios.
  • Perform all other duties to control traffic, pedestrians and cyclists to protect maintenance workers, work crews and members of public. Accurately and regularly complete site checks and monitor traffic flow to ensure safety is maintained at all times.  
  • Filling and loading of sandbags as and when required.  
  • Accurately complete daily activity sheet sheets, ensuring that all variations, modification or adjustments to a traffic management scheme are fully recorded and authorised.  
  • Implimentation of instructions from crew leaders, foremen, managers, etc.  
  • Cleaning of vehicles & signage at the end of the shift.
