Dunedin Hospital’s Emergency Department has two positions for two experienced Registered Nurses to join their team in the newly created position of Transfer Nurse on a part-time, fixed-term basis.

About the role

This newly developed role of the COVID Response Transfer nurse is to assist with the transferring of complex patients that require experienced nursing input. Working in the ‘Red Stream’ you will be supporting patient flow to ensure patients who are have or have a high suspicion of Covid-19 presenting in the Emergency Department are assessed and transferred through the department, other clinical areas and the wards efficiently and effectively. These transfers will require organisation to ensure a safe travel route along with experience and understanding of the complexities of equipment that may be required. This is certainly a dynamic and interesting area to work. It goes without saying that an opportunity such as this lends itself to enhancing professional development and a well-rounded skill set.

About you

We’re looking for a nurse who ideally has previous acute emergency or critical care nursing experience, is core competent, able to work independently and at the same time genuinely interested in the best outcome for both patient and team.

While the hours of work are generally afternoon shifts, some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the service.

To succeed in this role you will need to have the following:

  • Current registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and a current APC, with the right to work in New Zealand
  • Core competent
  • Two-three years post – graduate experience
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused
  • Previous experience in an acute setting is highly desirable
