About our team/Mō te tīma

Student Health provides health care services for students at the University of Otago. Our multi-disciplinary team of over 50 full and part-time staff, undertake over 50,000 medical, nursing and mental health consultations per year.

Student Health is a RNZCGP ‘Cornerstone’ practice and is actively involved in the teaching of House Surgeons and nursing students.

The role/Te mahi

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will work both in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals and the wider primary care team at Student Health Services.

A stepped care approach is required as well as a sound working knowledge of available referral partners and community resources.

Ideally, you will be an experienced and autonomous clinician who communicates clearly and works well in various team environments. A proven ability to function well under pressure of high clinical demand is essential.

In this role, you will report to the Clinical Group Leader of The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a registered clinical psychologist with a current APC.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest and have experience in helping young adults.
  • Have experience with assessment, short-term intervention, and liaison work (essential).
  • Have experience in Alcohol and Drug, and group work (advantageous).

A focused, flexible, positive, team approach to work is essential, along with an ability to work effectively in a busy but well-structured environment.

This is a permanent, part-time (15 hours per week) position. There is scope to negotiate working year-round or during the academic year only.

Hours of work will be variable between 8.30am and 8.30pm.
