About the role

We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated person to join our Connected Communities team. This is a 20 hours per week part-time, fixed term (24 months) role based in Paraparaumu.

As the Youth Coordinator, you will work closely with the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council and provide support and leadership that ensures the Youth Council is an effective group for youth participation in decision making and local government.

The Kāpiti Coast District Council is committed to building an organisation that is respected for its caring, dynamic and effective “open for business” approach so the successful candidate will need to share those values, and will also need to be available work some evenings and weekends to support activities. The preferred candidate will be required to undergo the usual pre-employment checks, including drug and alcohol screening, criminal history, police vetting, and credit checks. Please note you must be eligible to work in New Zealand.

Skills and Experience

Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and willingness to and capability for working with a wide range of people within and outside the organization;

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Organisational time management and planning skills.
  • Good understanding and commitment to modeling safe practice. Knowledge of tikanga Māori; awareness of Māori perspectives and of issues relevant to Māori.
  • A flexible approach to work including a willingness to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate activities.
