Board Intern

Port Otago Group’s business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We operate 24/7 and service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains.

Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement, and this extends to our highly engaged and committed Board of Directors.

About the Board Internship:

This 18-month position offers an emerging director the opportunity to accelerate their boardroom experience through exposure to a group of experienced and capable Board members. The internship is unpaid and will require the appointee to commit to reading all Board papers and attending ten board meetings per year, along with any assigned subcommittee meetings.

While this internship is mostly about you gaining exposure to our Board and how we govern, for us it’s also about having an extra participant in our Board meetings who can add further diversity of thought to our discussions.

What we’re looking for:

For us, the ideal appointee will be:

  • At the stage in their career where they are seeking to develop governance skills and gain exposure to a Board environment,
  • Completing some form of personal development through the Institute of Directors or similar,
  • Comfortable acting as an observer, but also willing to share thoughts and ideas from time-to-time
  • Able to travel to Dunedin and to commit the time required to participate effectively.

If successful, you’ll need to:

  • Obtain approval from your current employer to participate in the internship
  • Participate in our induction process and to sign a non-disclosure and conflict of interest declaration
  • Provide proof that you are fully vaccinated (which is a requirement to access our worksites)
  • Complete a satisfactory MoJ check prior to starting

How to apply?

Please apply via our Port Otago Careers website www.portotago.co.nz/careers

Applications close 24 July 2022.
