Tregear Public School is situated on Darug land in the Mt Druitt network. The school has an enrolment of 316 students with 35% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Tregear Public School is comprised of 13 mainstream classes and 4 support classes; offering a Mild Intellectual Disability (IM), Moderate Intellectual Disability (IO) and two Multi-Categorical classes (MC).

Through our strong partnership with the community our students are encouraged to engage in high quality learning opportunities that build self-confidence, develop a love of learning and continually improve. Our school community promotes positive wellbeing practices that aim to help children become resilient, happy and successful. This includes many close partnerships with not-for-profit and charity organisations, such as The Smith Family, Good 360, Mission Australia and Ngroo. The school has a strong focus on research based and evidence informed quality teaching practices through the provision of high impact professional learning; to enhance student outcomes in literacy and numeracy in a sustainable and meaningful way.

In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience in providing leadership and quality teaching and learning for students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, who may also present with additional needs such as, sensory, challenging behaviour and communication.

2. Capacity to lead consultation, planning, implementation and review of Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLSPs) for students in a support unit to promote continuous growth for social, emotional, behavioural, physical and academic learning needs of students.

3. Outstanding emotional intelligence and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community to improve the learning and wellbeing outcomes of all students.

4. Vision and capacity to collaboratively and proactively lead a holistic approach to school improvement with an emphasis on student wellbeing and behaviour support.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to meet mandatory double vaccination requirements against COVID-19.
