The Business Development Lead will enhance the position of the Business Unit as the pre-eminent supplier of Transport solutions in Aotearoa. The Business Development Lead actively supports the delivery of the Transport business strategy.

Working in coordination with the wider Transport Business Development Team, the Business Development Lead will focus on the following key areas:

Relationships – Have a strong internal network within Downer and positive external relationships across the wider infrastructure sector

Strategic Opportunities – Work with a wide range of stakeholders to identify and align the Transport Business Unit Strategic Opportunities.

Capture planning – Work with a wide range of stakeholders to ideally position and capture winning strategies for the Transport Business Unit Strategic Opportunities previously identified.

Team Leadership – Taking a leadership role within the Business Development team and be a delegate for the National Business Development Manager at key meetings where required.

Strategic direction and Business plans – Works effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to contribute to the Business Unit strategy by coordinating and producing strategic positioning papers and market and pipeline insights necessary to the realisation of the Downer Transport strategy

Account Management – Work in support of the Account Management Lead to help develop, maintain and improve the Account management framework.

Coordination – With other members of the team and business unit around activities like Capability Statements, Health of Relationship, Bid Governance, Conferences and Events, etc…

The Business Development Lead will work closely with other construction partners and across Downer Business Units working to identify and solve the issues in a collaborative and solution-orientated manner.

As part of our team you will have:
Appreciation of the ‘work winning’ process and a sound knowledge of business development and tendering.

A good understanding of the project development process, and which steps public and private clients are taking to bring their projects to construction.

An understanding of the broader New Zealand infrastructure sector and the Transport sector in particular.

A naturally collaborative approach with the ability to manage competing drivers and tension, using a solution-focused approach.

Desirable to hold a tertiary qualification or equivalent, preferably in engineering or business management.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in business development or related discipline

Minimum 3 years’ experience in the infrastructure sector
