At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

We are making significant changes to how we deliver our mahi by

  • Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Giving priority to regional and local voice.
  • Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support.
  • Improving feedback loops and information flows.

About our group and team

Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce is a key part of the Ministry.

We develop the education workforce strategy, including a focus on specialist services, employment relations, pay equity, education payroll, supply and scholarship functions. Our group ensures the system has the right people in the right places at the right time for early learning, kōhanga reo, schools and kura. We have links to tertiary education organisations, in particular wānanga, iwi and Māori, peak bodies and others, in the co-design of solutions to workforce challenges, such as provision of teachers with te reo and mātauranga Māori knowledge and Pacific languages.

This role is working across the pay equity and employment relations team. Our team is a vibrant, fast-paced as we work to investigate, settle and implement bargaining within the education sector.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

Do you have a love of understanding people but also of making things happen? If so, we are looking for you. We are looking for a self-starter who is ready to unpick and understand the why behind why people are acting in a certain way. We are looking for someone with the ability to persuade and clearly communicate what stakeholders need to do to implement bargaining settlements. We are looking for someone who doesn’t shy away from a challenge and likes to cross their T’s and dot their I’s.

Day-to-day you will be providing advice and support to implement new contract conditions within the education sector. We are looking for someone who follows a project-based approach and supports our organisational processes such as budget management, risk and issues management, operational policy, change management, project tools, project management and procedures.

Mōhou ake | About you

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure implementation and change activities are aligned with broader team and across all Ministry change activities.

You will also offer:

  • Work experience in a similar field and a project/change management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2 Practitioner or PMP/CAPM certified);
  • Experience in effectively developing and implementation of change work by providing advice and support from start to finish;
  • Proven experience to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience in identifying and providing advice on emerging issues;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver outcomes;
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
