We at the Sisters of Compassion Group have taken the bold and decisive move to appoint a Co-CE Tumu Whakarae Māori to be one half of a joint CE position for the organisation.
We also seek to appoint a Kaihuatū Māori to complement our endeavours to honour and lead in the area of partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi (see under Community Services & Development for the Kaihuatū position).
Complementing and working in close partnership with the current CE, Dr Chris Gallavin, the Co-CE Māori will be appointed on the same terms and conditions, be regarded as having equal standing and will work collaboratively with Dr Gallavin as one half of the position of Tumu Whakarae. Together, you will help lead us into a future of continued support for those most in need within our community.

We at the Sisters of Compassion are at a dynamic point in our history. We have many areas of service including the Compassion Soup Kitchen Wellington, social housing, elder care in New Zealand and Fiji, and national recognition as a place of rest, pilgrimage, prayer and respite. Of particular importance is our desire to partner with organisations to advance migrant community integration initiatives particularly at Our Lady’s Home of Compassion Island Bay.
Our tūrangawaewae remains Hiruhārama, Jerusalem on the Whanganui River and we are excited at the opportunity to work more collaboratively with the people of the River on projects that act in service of the people.
The role of Co-CE Māori is a dynamic and industry leading role. It combines sound business acumen, strategic and operational planning, with a deep understanding of place, people, kaupapa, values and a heart for change and service. The position will model innovation as the appointee will work with our current standalone CE as you both move together in forming two halves of the the Tumu Whakarae for the Sisters of Compassion.
