Arowhenua WhÄnau Services is a Kaupapa MÄori health provider focussed on delivering primary health, mental health, health and wellbeing, education and social services to MÄori and non- MÄori whÄnau and wider communities. Their multidisciplinary team works with people across the South Canterbury region to strive for better outcomes for MÄori and the wider community.
The purpose of the Community Support Kaimahi (Mental Health & Addictions) is to support clients and their whÄnau as they journey through the recovery and rehabilitation process, maintaining a positive approach and nurturing hope for the future. You will have the advantage of drawing on your own experience of mental health and/or addictions and personal recovery to effectively support others.
Core aspects of the role include:
- Being the first point of contact and support for clients and whÄnau
- Acting as a coach and mentor, and encouraging a positive approach
- Facilitating recovery plans and helping clients/whÄnau access a range of services and activities
- Providing healthy role modelling for clients and their whÄnau
- Maintaining client notes and related administration
Our ideal candidate will bring the following experience and attributes:
- Have or be working towards Level 4 or the equivalent recognized qualifications in Health & Wellbeing.
- Ability to relate to clients and from a perspective of having a lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction
- Having a comprehensive understanding of the recovery process, and the ability to share your own experiences appropriately while maintaining professional boundaries
- Computer literate and able to use technology
Knowledge of a MÄori world view and understanding of client and worker safety will also be key to success in this role.. Desirable is a commitment to the development of whÄnau, hapu, marae and tikanga / te reo MÄori.
A full driver’s licence is required for this position.
