This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position. About the role
The purpose of this role is to develop and deliver programs which explore First Nations knowledge and understanding of water, the role water plays in their communities and the practices and values of First Nations people as they align to community education programs at Sydney Water. It is responsible for the delivery of community education programs for Sydney Water at our sites, virtually and in the community to increase water literacy and embed circular economy principles. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Assist in the development of programs, including with reference to First Nations cultural knowledge, customs and practices as they relate to Sydney Water sites and their use.
- Develop and deliver educational programs at our sites, virtually and in the community. This may include school-based programs and community-based programs and activations.
- Assist with maintenance and care of resources, tools and equipment used in the education programs
- Support Sydney Water’s education bookings, monitoring and evaluations systems including data entry
- Represent Sydney Water and deliver presentations and educational activities at stakeholder/sponsorship events (eg offsite school/student events/conferences/sponsorship or partnership community events)
- Provide a First Nations perspective, input and advice on new resources and programs and develop new educational resources, tools and content to support the learning programs as needed. This includes development of learning resources used with technology (eg Smartboards, tablets and other interactive learning tools).
About you.
- Degree qualification in science, geography, engineering, environmental science/engineering, secondary teaching and/or equivalent experience
- 1-2 years experience delivering educational and learning programs within local communities
- Valid drivers license
- Demonstrated experience communicating complex and technical concepts through education activities and programs aimed at the secondary and tertiary audiences in a range of learning environments
- Sound understanding and demonstrated experience of applying First Nations cultural and historical perspectives in teaching and learning settings particularly in relation to caring for Country.
- Highly developed verbal communication and interpretation skills to deliver complex and technical concepts for diverse audiences (eg secondary students, tertiary students, community groups, stakeholders
- Desirable but not essential – Demonstrated knowledge of the water industry.
