The role:

A newly created 12-month opportunity is now available for a Senior Manager Government Relations.

This is an influential role responsible for identifying and analysing policy and political trends that will impact Westpac New Zealand, helping maintain strong relationships across the political spectrum, communicating the business of banking and advocating on behalf of our 1.3 million customers and over 5,000 employees.

Developing and maintaining strong relationships within Westpac is an essential part of the role, including working with the External Relations team and a range of senior leaders and subject matter experts.

As well as being a shrewd analyst, relationship manager and communicator, the successful candidate will have an excellent work ethic, outstanding judgement and a strong network of personal contacts.

Although this is initially a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, there is potential for this role to be extended longer.

To be successful we’d expect you to have:

  • Demonstrated experience working in politics or government
  • Proven communication and relationship management skills across a broad range of stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of current policy and political direction
  • Demonstrated experience developing, analysing, or communicating policy
  • Strong network of personal contacts
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge of media
  • Tertiary qualification
