Kua rite koe mō tēnei mahi? Are you ready to make a difference?

Our Health Economists assess proposals for funding of new health technologies, advising on high-value funding decisions.

We are Aotearoa New Zealand’s single largest health technology assessment team. We work closely with Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac’s clinical advisors and our commercial negotiators. There are also opportunities to lead strategic projects.

This is a real opportunity to be at the core of our operations – influencing the practical intersect of evidence-based medicine, economics, and commerce. This is also a chance to build our organisational capability and competency when it comes to Te Tiriti partnership, reducing inequities and improving health outcome for Māori.

While the role is full time, we would happily consider a part time/flexible arrangement for the right candidate.

Mōhou ake | About You

We are seeking Health Economists for a fixed term period of two years to address additional workloads within our team and drive key projects.

You may have a background in health technology assessment, epidemiology, finance, applied mathematics, economics, biomedical research, or related fields.

You will help Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac prioritise spending on pharmaceuticals for Aotearoa New Zealand – modelling the cost-effectiveness and budgetary impact of new pharmaceuticals.

You will be confident to present results to other staff and to decision-makers, and to debate results with staff, clinicians and suppliers. You will have excellent communication skills, a thorough understanding of the challenges within the health sector (particularly focused on reducing inequities for Māori) and an ability to present results to other teams and decision makers across our organisation.

The role has a level of autonomy and applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to work as part of a team. You will be part of our Pharmaceutical Assessment Team and supported to learn and succeed in our fast paced and dynamic workplace.
